What You Need
Desired Skills: The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of computational ice sheet and/or climate modeling; experience in high-latitude, coupled climate modeling and analysis; experience in construction and application of ice sheet and/or climate models; expertise in computer programming in languages compatible with high-performance computing (e.g. Fortran90, C, C++); expertise in shell scripting and/or data-analysis languages (e.g. Python, Matlab, bash); experience with collaborative software tools (e.g. git/Github, Confluence). He/she will have also demonstrated scientific excellence as evidenced by submission and publication of authored publications in refereed journals, the ability to create or improve numerical models, and the ability to analyze and interpret ice sheet and/or climate model simulation data. The ability to work in a highly collaborative team setting is also a requirement.
Education: A Ph.D. in geophysical-fluid modeling, climate modeling, physical glaciology, physics, applied mathematics, or a closely related field.
Additional Details:
Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Darleane Christian Hoffman, Richard P. Feynman, or J. Robert Oppenheimer Fellowship. For these named fellowships, the research scope may be broadened to include other topic of mutual interest in the broader areas of climate and geophysical fluid dynamics.
