Projects extend across a wide range of high-impact science, technology, and engineering areas supporting national and global security missions. Examples include materials design, networks and infrastructure, image and signals, space systems, epidemiology, environmental management, cyber-physical systems, energy systems, and analysis of complex engineered systems including the nuclear stockpile. The CCS-6 Scientist will work as a statistician, actively participating in programmatic work and research activities, which include contributing to innovation in statistical methodology; advancing applications through rigorous statistical modeling and analysis in basic and applied science as well as national and global security; initiating and developing new projects; mentoring students, postdocs, and early career staff; and participating in professional activities, including publication. The position will promote development in statistical practice and in the profession of statistics. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Scientist 2 ($87,800-$144,800):
Demonstrated capability in research, development, and application of methods in statistics and data science. Ability to collaborate on applications of statistics in science, technology, and engineering. Ability to communicate methods and technical results to both statistical and non-statistical audiences. Strong statistical computing skills including experience using software for statistical programming and advanced statistical analysis (e.g., R, MATLAB).
Additional Job Requirements for Scientist 3 ($96,600-$161,300): In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Scientist 3 level requires: Leadership in advanced development and application of statistical methods. Proven statistical research record demonstrated by journal publications and technical reports. Demonstrated record of presenting research results in scientific settings. Experience working with interdisciplinary scientific teams. Track record of developing successful collaborative research proposals. History of publication, peer review, and professional service in the field of statistics.
Desired Skills: Demonstrated scientific accomplishment and expertise in one or more technical areas of the CCS-6 group. Experience with statistical applications in the physical and engineering sciences. Familiarity with scientific computing (e.g., C/C++, Python) and high-performance computing, such as using MPI or shared memory programming.
