Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
Matter-Radiation Interactions in Extremes (MaRIE) is LANL’s future billion dollar-class flagship experimental science facility. MaRIE 1.0 focuses specifically on addressing evolving national security needs. MaRIE 1.0 fill gaps in our understanding of meso-scale materials behavior and their impact on stockpile performance and process aware manufacturing. MaRIE 1.0 will couple coherent xrays from an 42 keV XFEL, with proton and electron probes providing unprecedented simultaneous, multi-probe measurements of in situ, transient phenomena such as phase transformations, materials heterogeneity and strength in multigranular materials (including plutonium and HE) with subgranular resolution in relevant environments including dynamic extremes, during manufacturing, and as a function of age. The MaRIE Capture Manager is responsible and accountable to the Laboratory Director for the success of MaRIE in partnership with an Executive Steering Committee. The MaRIE Capture Manager reports to the Associate Director for Weapons Physics programmatically and to the Associate Director for Experimental Physical Sciences in the line sense. The MaRIE Capture Manager is responsible for the integrated strategy for MaRIE science, technology and engineering across the Laboratory as well as the success of the MaRIE project and is the Laboratory’s principal liaison with National stakeholders on all matters related to MaRIE. The successful candidate will bring outstanding demonstrated technical and programmatic leadership credentials. Integration with broader laboratory priorities is a key success factor for the MaRIE Capture Manager. As such, additional programmatic duties will be dependent on the specific candidate’s skills and experience.
