The position is for two years, with a third year possible contingent on excellent performance.
Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. On the anniversary of these dates, salaries are automatically adjusted to the next higher level, e.g. PhD + 0: $74,000; PhD + 1: $75,900, etc. For more information go to Postdoc Salary Guidelines.
Exceptional candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Darleane Christian Hoffman, Richard P. Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Fellowships.

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
The Earth Systems Observations Group consists of four teams working broadly across the fields of geology, geochemistry, hydrology, geomorphology, vegetation dynamics and atmospheric sciences using multiple experimental and observational techniques, and computer simulation. The Group’s research includes both fundamental and applied science. The successful candidate will work as part of this dynamic group developing cutting-edge approaches to tackle pressing national and global challenges, and collaborating closely with researchers from the fields of biology and chemistry.
Additional Details:
Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
