What You Will Do

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties of this position, but are not necessarily limited to:

• Work as a part of a multi-discipline engineering design team that designs, maintains, and upgrades facility structural systems at nuclear facilities
• The structural engineer is responsible for LANL design projects to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Laboratory codes and standards.
• This position is assigned responsibility for supporting and/or leading structural design projects, the performance of structural engineering design work, as well as the oversight of design/analysis calculations, drawings, and specifications including the test / inspection plans that are submitted by external Architect-Engineer firms. 
• The work includes structural analysis of re-configured facility space, and design to conform to the IBC Codes, ASCE standards, and material standards such as ACI and AISC IEBC requirements for alterations.
• Implement the LANL Conduct of Engineering (COE) Program

Desired Skills:

• Two to four years of nuclear experience
• Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Professional Engineering License preferred
• Knowledge of LANL Conduct of Engineering Processes and Procedures

Education: BS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET Accredited College or University

Additional Details:

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).  Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.

*Eligibility requirements:  To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
