LANL is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position working on the HAWC TeV gamma-ray observatory. HAWC has been observing the Northern TeV sky for over three years and is continuously taking data. A LANL-led outrigger array at HAWC has recently finished commissioning and is further increasing HAWC’s highest energy sensitivity. The successful candidate will contribute to LANL efforts on the operations and analysis methods for HAWC, as well as science analysis of HAWC data. LANL is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the front-end electronics and is a major contributor to the calibration system as well as the development of new reconstruction and analysis algorithms. The science objectives of HAWC are many, and LANL scientists are working on understanding particle acceleration in astrophysical sources as well as searching for evidence of new fundamental physics, such as the indirect detection of dark matter. HAWC is located in central Mexico at ~14000’ elevation. Although the detector is remotely operable, occasional travel to the HAWC site is likely.
