The candidate will work directly with scientist Migun Shakya, PhD to develop novel bioinformatics solutions to next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, with special emphasis on large scale omics data analysis. This applicant would become part of the Division’s Genome Programs, which include a core sequencing facility specializing in Illumina and PacBio technologies, and a bioinformatics group. The genome program is focused on adapting state-of-the-art methods and devising novel strategies and algorithms to better interpret genomic, metagenomic, and transcriptomics. Our group comprises experimental and computational bioscientists working on projects that span a range of topics, including microbial ecology, genome evolution, host-microbe interactions (e.g. host-pathogen, fungal-bacterial symbioses, etc.), biosurveillance, pathogen diagnostics, algal genomics and bioenergy, and others. The position will initially explore novel methods in metagenomic, metatranscriptomic, whole genome phylogeny, and/or transcriptomic data analysis applied to one or more of these projects.
