A Postdoctoral Position is available in the Theoretical Physics and Chemistry of Materials Group (T-1) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Successful applicants will work in studies of warm dense matter (WDM) and hot plasmas. Principal projects could include:
1) first-principles simulations of WDM using density functional theory (DFT) with an emphasis on mixtures, 2) the development of orbital-free DFT within a real space formulation employing massively-parallel computing, or 3) extensions of orbital DFT to higher temperature regimes. Applications span many areas including inertial confinement fusion, planetary interiors, and laser-matter interactions.
What You Need
Candidates should have a strong background in atomic, molecular, and optical physics; quantum chemistry; or condensed matter physics. Experience with major quantum chemistry or plane-wave computational packages is highly desired. .
Education: PhD in related field completed within the past five years or soon to be completed.
Notes to Applicants: In addition to applying on-line applicants should submit a cover letter with research interests, and CV with publication list, to either Christopher Ticknor (cticknor@lanl.gov) or Lee Collins (lac@lanl.gov).
