Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
The Advanced Network Science Initiative is seeking outstanding research scientist candidates in the topic areas of control theory, applied mathematics, optimization, statistical mechanics, machine learning, and computer science with a particular emphasis on the development of novel theoretical and computational tools for application in energy and infrastructure systems. The Advanced Network Science Initiative performs basic and applied research focused on development and use of both physical models and algorithms. These provide detailed, quantified information on the physical, operational, and economic behavior of energy networks, infrastructures, and industries. Our expertise covers the generation, transmission, and distribution of energy systems, as well as other, non-energy systems, such as communications, critical to energy security. We ensure the scientific and technological validity of our models by working closely with physicists, engineers, mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists, and economists and by employing interdependency and probabilistic, risk-assessment frameworks. Our customers include DOE, DTRA, energy system and IT industry, and other national laboratories.
