The COSIM team seeks a staff scientist to work on a broad range of activities related to sea-level rise, particularly as driven by the interaction of the Antarctic ocean and land-ice system. We seek expertise in computational physics, high-performance computing, and analyses of the coupled ocean-land ice system. In terms of computational physics, we seek research talents for the development of advanced algorithms to improve the fidelity, performance and portability of global ocean and land-ice models with a focus toward high-resolution, grand-challenge scale coupled simulations. With respect to simulation analyses we encourage research that lead to improved description, fidelity and understanding of high-resolution, coupled, ocean-and-land ice system dynamics. Our models are components of the newly developed U.S. Department of Energy climate model, the Accelerated Climate Model for Energy (ACME). A particular focus of ACME is fully-coupled, global, high-resolution simulations of the Earth system. Within this broad activity, the focus of Los Alamos National Laboratory is the development of a modeling system capability to produce probabilistic estimates of sea-level rise.
The successful candidate will be required to:
