The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of CINT Scientist in the Nanoscale Electronics and Mechanics (NEM) Thrust as a member of the CINT group in the Materials Physics and Applications Division at Los Alamos. CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center operated jointly by Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories for the Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES) as a national user facility devoted to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials. The NEM thrust is composed of approximately 10 CINT scientists located at the CINT facilities at Los Alamos and Albuquerque. The scientist will work with the management team, the NEM Thrust Leader, and other members of the NEM Thrust to develop and maintain a forefront program of nanoscale science and user activities. The scientist reports to the MPA-CINT Group Leader at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The NEM scientist will carry out their own program of scientific investigation and user interactions with an emphasis on thin film synthesis, microstructural characterization (electron microscopy TEM/SEM), and a combination of functional and mechanical behavior measurements. Experience with both in-situ mechanical and functional properties measurements is a plus. The scientist will also have the opportunity to interact with a broader set of sponsors beyond BES who may benefit from CINT’s materials research advances in areas ranging from threat reduction to applied energy programs.
Scientist 2 ($83,000 to $136,000)
You are expected to carry out your own vigorous program of scientific investigation and user interactions within the general area of metallic, semiconductor, and ceramic thin film synthesis, nanomechanical testing and small-scale sample design and fabrication (often FIB-based), fabrication of novel nanoscale devices and structures, characterization of the structural and electronic properties of these materials, and their integration for device scale applications. You will establish a strong national reputation in your field through publications in high impact journals and presentations at national and international meetings. You will contribute to the development of new strategic initiatives and expanded technical capabilities that will impact the future of the Center and its host Laboratories.
Scientist 3 ($90,100-$152,000)
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Scientist 3 will be expected to demonstrate and maintain a national reputation as evidenced by criteria including organization of symposia and workshops at the national level, and service on national scientific societal committees and review panels. You will lead proposal development efforts and funded projects at the multi-investigator team level and recruit and effectively mentor postdoctoral associates. You will interact with a broad set of sponsors to develop relationships that will benefit from CINT’s materials research advances in areas ranging from nanoscale electronics/mechanics, detection and sensing to energy harvesting and storage. You will contribute substantially to setting the strategic directions for your Thrust.
