Manage a radar system operation and maintenance group consisting of the engineering technologist and 2 technicians capable of responding to radar issues around the world. Produce reports to track materials, radar performance, and spare parts, at multiple ARM radar sites. The work involves writing status and close-out reports, utilization of computers and software to control instruments and collect data, participating in field campaigns; directing the set up and testing of radar equipment, and writing, editing, and tracking technical and safety documentation. The selected candidate will work with various personnel within the ARM organization, and excellent communication is required in order to direct deployment, operation, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation located in foreign and domestic locations. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Experience with design, installation and commissioning of complex radar and RF systems. Demonstrated experience in feedback loop stability analysis and testing. Demonstrated experience with computer aided simulation tools (e.g. spice, Matlab, etc.). Experience with Linux based operating systems, software, and automated data collection systems. Experience conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting radar systems and equipment. Demonstrated technical leadership and good teamwork skills. Good oral, written and presentation communication skills required.
Desired Skills: Experience with the design and preparation of radar specifications for climate related radar installations. Prior experience as a participant in field operations and/or scientific field campaigns. Prior experience serving as a Technical Lead in the design, preparation, procurement, development, and coordination of radar installations. Computer networking skills.

The Field Instruments Deployments and Operations (FIDO) team supports the Department of Energy Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program through the deployment of fixed and mobile climate research facilities in locations throughout the world. The Radar Systems Engineering Technologist 2 will play an integral role developing a FIDO Radar Operations team consisting of an engineering technologist and 2 technicians. FIDO is presently responsible for 11 radars located around the world. We are seeking a radar engineering technologist that has experience and proven leadership abilities that can contribute to a wide variety of our team’s domestic and international projects. Domestic and foreign travel of around 1-3 months per year is required to operate and manage ARM radar research facilities.
