Selected candidates will be expected to work independently on a defined research projectand as part of a multidisciplinary research team. Candidates will be expected to disseminate their results through internal reports/presentations, patents (if applicable), peer-reviewed journal publications, and conference presentations. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Applicants must have demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
1. Membrane based separations including the design, synthesis, fabrication, and characterizationof materials for gas/vapor/liquid separation applications. Experience with hollow fiber membrane and module fabrication is a plus. 2. Polymeric materials formulation and processing including injection moldingand extrusion (compounding, fiber/film/rod/tube/sheet manufacture) of thermoplastic and/or thermosetting materials,including expertise with material characterization techniques relevant to development and optimization of polymer processing operations. Experience with processing of filled materials with high solids loadings is a plus. Experience with modelling polymer processing operations is a plus. 3. Analytical interrogation of organic,carbonaceous, and organic-inorganic hybrid materials including: neat and filled polymeric materials, porous and dense material architectures, heterogeneous catalysts, and polymer derived carbons/ceramics. Techniques of interest include optical spectroscopies (infrared and Raman), thermal/thermomechanical analyses, rheometry, sorption analyses,gas chromatography, and mass spectrometry. 4. Process design, modeling and simulations including design and techno-economic analysis of complex chemical engineering processes. Demonstrated experience in mass and heat transfer model development and process simulation tools e.g. MatlabÒ and Aspen PlusÒ. Desired Skills: · Demonstrated ability to perform as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team conducting scientific or industrial work; · Demonstrated ability to work independently; · Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing; · Demonstrated record of reliability and versatility; · Demonstrated competency with computers and software applications for word processing, data processing (e.g., Excel/Origin/Matlab),and data visualization. · Demonstrated high-level skills in thedesign, assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of vacuum and high-pressure systems. Education: A B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, Materials Engineering, MaterialsScience, Polymer Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related technical field completed within past 3 years with cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.
