The CINT Co-Director is expected to spend ~1 day per week at the CINT Core Facility in Albuquerque. It is anticipated that the Co-Director will eventually succeed the Director in CINT's joint leadership model. The CINT Co-Director is also the Group Leader of MPA-CINT, a ~75-person organization (including a substantial postdoc and student population) that carries out R&D for programs for a wide range of sponsors from national security to applied energy, as well as both Basic Energy Sciences (BES) materials core research and user facility support. MPA-CINT’s key capabilities include chemical and physical syntheses of nanoscale and nanostructured materials; biologically inspired approaches to material design; optical, electron, and force microscopies, and micro-spectroscopies for imaging and characterization; ultrafast science; photonics and plasmonics; and metamaterials. The Co-Director is specifically responsible for: Implementing CINT’s scientific vision and strategy internal to CINT to ensure a unified, cross-lab CINT team; Developing and executing CINTs scientific vision and strategy as it relates to the broader set of sponsors beyond BES; Serving as the primary point of contact for CINTs advisory bodies and building and growing cross-lab partnerships. Provide technical leadership and management of center personnel and resources to ensure the scientific vitality of the organization and to secure programmatic work aligned with the center’s mission. Nurture an intellectual environment conducive to scientific research, development, and innovation that retains and attracts the highest caliber scientific staff and ensures appropriate mentoring and supervision of CINT’s postdoc and students. Implement all applicable safety, environment, security, and quality, compliance and administrative policies. Be a key member of the Materials Physics and Applications Division Leadership team, championing the strategic, tactical, and operational success of the division in partnership with colleague group- and division-level managers.

Minimum Job Requirements: Outstanding scientific research and technical leadership in nanoscience, or related field as evidenced by publications, citations, and presentations. Leadership experience within a complex or multi-disciplinary R&D organization. Track record of successful grantsmanship and management of large research projects. Demonstrated success in strategic planning and implementation. Record of effective communication, teamwork, and consensus building within scientific community. Record of successful mentorship and technical development of personnel Demonstrated ability to manage safely, securely and effectively diverse research facilities with chemical, biological, and other high hazards. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage financial and human resources with commitment to AA/EEO/Diversity objectives. A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field of science.
Desired Skills: Experience with DOE-BES. Knowledge of LANL and other DOE program offices. Experience with national user facilities. Success development of partnerships with external institutions, particularly other National Laboratories. Ability to obtain a Q Clearance which normally requires US Citizenship.
