The NSRC is Los Alamos National Laboratory's classified library, containing tens of millions of documents, films, books, and other archival material related to the development, testing and production of nuclear weapons dating back to the first days of the Manhattan project. The NSRC’s collections contain a breadth of classified technical information related to physics, chemistry, engineering, material science, intelligence, national security, and history. The NSRC's holdings also include the hand-written notebooks of over a dozen Nobel Prize winning scientists who worked at the Laboratory. We are looking for an individual with a background in digitizing; handling, storage, transmission, and disposition of electronic and hard copy unclassified and/or classified documents/materials; managing special records or archive collections and performs technical information research and retrieval from a wide variety of collections to meet the needs of Laboratory staff. We are looking for an exceptional Library Professional to lead and oversee the digitization and collection management of classified materials. The NSRC Library Professional will be responsible for leading multiple digitization projects that involve interacting with customers, developing and providing cost estimates, training staff to digitize on various types of equipment and perform quality assessments of electronic files, and performing any finishing tasks associated with media to preserve original master copies. You will be implementing digitization workflows, streamlining the digitization processes, assigning and tracking day-today activities for the team, and working with Weapons Program customers to ensure priorities and requirements are being met. Other duties include providing support to locate and extricate important information as one‐off requests for technical customers and to ensure digitized materials are discoverable and retrievable. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Leadership: For this role, you will need experience in a leadership role developing goals, objectives, and administering work to a team. You will need experience supervising, mentoring and evaluating work, directly and through subordinates managing multiple tasks, often competing deadlines. Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated experience and knowledge of document and other media digitization technology. Knowledge of archival or records management processes, such as indexing, cataloging, and organizing material for easy retrieval. Must be familiar with using one or more professional document management systems. Process Improvement: Experience in participating in process improvement teams and implementing those improvements. Customer Relations: Demonstrated experience in customer‐focused communication and relations. You will be required to have experience handling sensitive situations using sound and independent judgment. Support customer requests, priorities and deadlines. Experience developing clear, concise, and informative reports, presentations, correspondence, and other written materials to customers and management. Education: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) and 8 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Desired Qualifications: LANL Familiarity Familiarity and understanding of the weapons program within LANL, along with experience working on classified networks. Business Processes Experience with business processes such as budgeting, planning, scheduling, data collection, and analysis. Experience in process improvement. Education A Masters in Library Science (MLS) or Masters in Library Information (MLIS) is highly desired.
