Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
The Computational Physics Group, CCS-2, seeks an R&D Scientist 2 to support, develop, and implement numerical solution algorithms for radiation transport on the latest massively parallel high-performance computing (HPC) platforms in support of LANL's programmatic efforts. The physics scope includes linear and nonlinear neutral particle transport (neutrons, gamma rays, thermal X-rays), charged particle transport, and transport related multi-physics for applications such as nuclear reactors, inertial confinement fusion, high energy density physics experiments, astrophysics, and weapons physics. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and as part of a team environment, in the following areas of the physics scope and core competencies: computational methods/algorithms research, development, and implementation; modern large-scale software design, development, maintenance, and application code integration per established Software Quality Engineering (SQE) practices and policy; methods and software research and development for next-generation parallel heterogeneous architectures; and user support, simulation, and simulation analysis.
