What You Will Do

Specificity in a protein-ligand interaction is a hallmark of protein-based biosensors and diagnostic tools. The Bioscience Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a highly talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher who is capable of working at the interface of computational protein modeling and experimental characterization to create specific binders of small molecules and engineer them into modules capable of producing a signal for real-time detection. A twofold objective of ‘sense’ and ‘catalyze & sense’ will be achieved during the course of postdoctoral assignment via small molecule binders and will be utilized towards detection of key anthropogenic molecules or evolution of key enzymes towards production of molecules of interest in a cellular environment (Reference:doi:10.1093/nar/gkw687). The successful candidate will perform this work in collaboration with a team of Ph.D. staff scientists with expertise in the areas of protein biochemistry, structural biology, computational protein design and microbial engineering.

• One or more years of experience in Rosetta or equivalent protein design tool, protocol development and data handling is preferred
• Exposure to high throughput screening platform is recommended
• Strong publication record
• Excellent communication and writing skills

Education:

A Ph.D. in Biochemistry or related fields is required.  The candidate must have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of the appointment and be within 5 years of completion of the Ph.D.
