| Job Title | | Scientist 2 | | | | Location | | Los Alamos, NM, US | | | | Organization Name | | MST-8/Structure/Property Relations | | | | Minimum Salary | | 87800 | | | | Maximum Salary | | 144800 | | | | | | What You Will Do The position resides in the Scattering Science Team and interfaces with various DOE programs. The successful candidate will carry out research relevant to material characterization using thermal and epithermal neutron radiography and tomography, in particular energy-resolved neutron imaging techniques, as well as material characterization with neutron absorption resonance spectroscopy and others as necessary. One focus is the continued development of Advanced Pre- and Post Irradiation Examination (APIE) of nuclear fuels to accelerate science-base development of advanced nuclear fuels for the DOE-NE mission. Applying at least basic knowledge of the related imaging and neutron transmission detectors to improve data quality and develop capabilities is required. The ability to contribute to material characterization using cold and ultra-fast neutron radiography, phase contrast imaging, and neutron as well as synchrotron X-ray scattering are desirable. This position will be filled at the Scientist 2 level. The Scientist 2 will be responsible for contributing to and leading research areas and activities across scientific disciplines in support of research and development (R&D) science related to nuclear energy, scintillator development, and other LANL mission relevant fields. Scientist 2 will lead technologists, students, and/or postdocs and contribute to deliverables such as milestone reports. The candidate will need to be able to apply scientific principles under the scientific method to address technical problems; or to develop novel techniques or principles; or to analyze data or outcomes from experiments (in the real world or in the computational domain) or from observational procedures in the context of the underlying scientific principles or models. Scientist 2 is a capable professional with knowledge in several relevant disciplines or in a narrow, specialized field. The position will require direct interface with customers, writing reports, and providing program updates. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: - Understanding of neutron science such as neutron imaging, neutron resonance spectroscopy, or neutron scattering or a related field (e.g. X-ray imaging).
