What You Will Do

The Research Library seeks an experienced Digital Information Technologist. The main responsibility of the position will be the design, development, usability, implementation and management of digital library services with an initial focus on the Research Library’s institutional repository. The Digital Information Technologist is expected to maintain a keen awareness of trends in digital tools and services, and will pursue opportunities for enhancing digital services through the adoption of new technologies, linked data practices, projects to develop new digital services, collaborations and partnerships. The successful candidate will assist in the prioritization, management and execution of the many tasks associated with supporting digital library collections, the scholarly lifecycle, researcher publications, Los Alamos original content, multimedia and scientific data.

Responsibilities               

• Responsible for the technical design, development, and implementation of the Research Library’s institutional repository.
• Responsible for developing strategies related to repository services and technologies including the design of systems and workflows.
• Coordinates with library staff on procedural, operational and technical issues related to repository platform and service objectives.
• Interface between Library systems, e.g. the institutional repository, and larger institutional frameworks managed outside the Research Library.
• Evaluates software products, frameworks, and libraries to determine their applicability to the Research Library’s needs with respect to the repository and related projects.
• Provide technical support for the systems and services used by the Research Library for Digital Services and Scholarly Communications.

• A minimum of 3 years of hands-on, related applications development/production experience including developing, implementing, and supporting an institutional repository.
• Experience with library supported community open source development projects such as, Fedora or Invenio.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and/or ability to work with a wide range of digital library standards and practices, such as digitization, digital preservation, standards for media content, metadata, controlled authorities, and user experience.
• Production experience with web development frameworks such as, java/struts, ruby/rails or python/Django.
• Demonstrated ability and aptitude for complex, analytical work with an attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
• Ability to obtain a Q clearance.

Clearance:  Q (Position will be cleared to this level).  Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.

*Eligibility requirements:  To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
