What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
· Thorough understanding of English grammar and rhetoric to include standard theories, principles, and practices of technical editing and science writing
· Experience and demonstrated skill in technical writing and editing, including experience adapting the editing style to meet customer and audience needs
· Advanced experience writing about science or technology for semi technical and/or nontechnical audiences
· Demonstrated professional experience writing original material drawing on existing documents, background research, and interviews with subject matter experts
· Experience analyzing customer and audience needs and determining the structure, content, and format of communication products that best meet those needs
· Experience juggling the demands of multiple work priorities and working effectively under pressure
· Experience working on communication products involving multiple authors and reviewers
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
· Understanding of design principles for documents developed for print and online publication
Desired Skills:
Education: Position typically requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in science writing, English, journalism, technical communication, or a physical or social science and a minimum of 8 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Communication Arts and Services group (CPA-CAS) provides multidisciplinary, full-service communications support for organizations and programs at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Our experts in graphic arts, writing and editing, and web content development, create compelling and effective communication products for customers across the Laboratory.

Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances.
Pre-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a pre-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to a regular status only with approval of the cognizant Principal Associate Director.
